TU Delft

University Teacher Bachelor Computer Science and Engineering / Bachelor Health and Technology

Do you have a passion for education and enjoy sharing your Computer Science expertise with the next generation? Then this opportunity could be perfect for you!

Job description

TU Delft’s Computer Science departments are looking for a passionate, highly motivated University Teacher. In this role, you will deliver high-quality teaching, independently or alongside colleagues, within the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) BSc program and potentially the new Health and Technology BSc program, developed in collaboration with Erasmus University Rotterdam. You will also help strengthen the broader educational environment.

We would like to welcome another full-time colleague to the CSE Teaching Team who shares our commitment to teaching and continuously improving education. Established in 2018, the team has made a substantial contribution to educational quality in the CSE BSc program and has successfully taught and supported hundreds of students. More information about our team can be found here.

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) BSc program

Accredited and comprehensive, the three-year Computer Science and Engineering BSc program welcomes approximately 550 new students annually and has around 1,600 students in total. Teaching takes place in English, reflecting our diverse, international student community. The curriculum combines theoretical computer science with practice-oriented courses that apply this knowledge. Students complete two capstone projects: typically an industry internship and a research assignment.

The Health and Technology BSc program

Starting in September 2027, the newly accredited Bachelor Health & Technology will be delivered by TU Delft entirely at Erasmus University’s campus in Rotterdam. Its aim is to educate engineers who can bridge the gap between medical professionals and engineers to address complex health challenges, such as an ageing population. Within this new bachelor’s program, the Computer Science Teaching Team will teach or co-teach at least two courses: first-year programming, covering Python and AI tools, and second-year data visualisation. Because the program is taught in Dutch, responsibilities across the Delft and Rotterdam programs will be divided according to your skills and availability and those of your fellow teaching team members.

What will you do as a University Teacher?

As a University Teacher, you will teach or co-teach courses in our Computer Science-related programs. Your responsibilities include preparing and delivering lectures, developing and refining course materials, organising practical sessions, facilitating discussions, evaluating student performance and offering constructive feedback. Every course is delivered by a pair or team of university teachers and lecturers, making collaboration essential. You will join colleagues who share your enthusiasm for education, with the freedom to pursue areas that interest you and the opportunity to learn from their experience and guidance. You can also contribute to educational innovation and will recruit and supervise teams of teaching assistants.

Job requirements

We welcome applicants with a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and education, and we are committed to supporting the further development of your teaching skills.

  • You hold an MSc in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • You have demonstrated affinity and enthusiasm with (some selected) topics taught in the first years of the Computer Science and Engineering BSc program, like algorithms, databases, embedded systems, software engineering, programming, artificial intelligence, computer networks, multimedia processing, etc.
  • You communicate effectively, have strong interpersonal skills and collaborate well with colleagues and diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.
  • You are expected to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years to develop your teaching competencies further. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ program. If you already have relevant experience, this may result in a (partial) exemption.
  • You are expected to have good command of the English language, as TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency.
  • As the Health and Technology program will be taught in Dutch, command of the Dutch language is highly appreciated, but not a hard requirement.
  • Ideally, you have prior affinity with teaching and/or academia, for example through teaching at other institutions, obtaining a PhD degree, or other relevant experience.
